A Child's Calendar - John Updike
Today is the first day of autumn, the start of my favorite season.
A Child's Calendar
by John Updike
The stripped and shapely
Maple grieves
The ghosts of her
Departed leaves.
The ground is hard,
As hard as stone.
The year is old,
The birds are flown.
And yet the world,
In its distress,
Displays a certain
Loveliness---
Fall is most certainly my favorite season too. Not to mention that I'm a redhead, so fall colors suit me best! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous poem, Brenna! Hell, I didn't have a clue that Updike wrote poetry...Who knew? I have already shared with a friend of mine. Awesome, milady! Cheers! Chris
