Trailer: Everything Is Illuminated

Yesterday I posted a review of Everything Is Illuminated. A few of you recommended the film so I went ahead and googled the trailer. After wathcing the trailer, I'm not sure if I'm going to hunt down the movie anytime soon. Everything Is Illuminated doesn't feel like a book that would translate well to the big screen. Am I wrong?

  1. I quite liked the movie version (I had read the novel beforehand). It's not perfect and they leave the myth-story out, but the leads are quite good and the direction is steady.

  2. You're not wrong, IMO. But that may only because Elijah Wood irritates me.

  3. Ape, The Myth story was my favorite part! But I supposed I can see how it wouldn't fit in a movie. (sigh)

Greg, I feel like Jonathan Safran Foer should have played himself. That would have been solid.

  4. I loved the movie, but haven't read the book. It sounds like you will probably be disappointed. Maybe if you wait a few years it will be a better experience?

  6. I liked the movie. I didn't think it was really memorable or horrible. So-so.

  7. Loved the movie, haven't read the book. I like the ideas above, if your close to the books right now, give it some time. The worst thing I did like that was when I read "the English Patient" and I love it and then I watched the film and I hated it.

  8. I've only seen the movie once, but I do remember liking it much more than I liked the book.

  9. Not so sure about this either. I'm very picky in terms of ethnic books/films. I want a movie that will say: "We're all the same at the end" obviously this fails from the trailer. And Elijah Wood's face.
