If I Ever Meet Paulo Coelho...
If I ever meet Paulo Coelho I will congratulate him for writing a piece of crap book that became hugely successful despite it's constant repetition and simplification of a story line. But, I will be able to pronounce his name correctly thanks to this handy guide.
Found you on the blog hop! You have reviewed a ton of books I want to read!

lol! I'd tell him about the same ;)
ReplyDeleteBeing Portuguese I have no trouble pronouncing his name, but let me thank you for spelling it correctly. As much as I passionately dislike the guy, it annoys me to constantly see "CoehLOL" or any other variation , especially when it's right next to a huge cover image where it's spelled correctly :P
Nymeth, I'm glad you agree! Also, I've never studied any other languages other than French (and English of course) so his last name was always a mystery to me. That's awesome you are Portuguese. I am like 5% and it's my favorite nationality to tell people about :)
ReplyDeleteHee. Your post amused me but is also invaluable! Ana (Nymeth) has just posted it on Twitter and I had to immediately stop by and say how much I love it! I knew the Nigerian pronunciations because I love the writers but I've never been sure how to pronounce Coetzee.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paperback! And can I just say how excited I am Nymeth tweeted me!
ReplyDeleteHee. It's doing the rounds now but we're being careful to give you credit!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog via the hop and am happy to be a new follower

Paperback, you guys are awesome :)
ReplyDeleteMel, thanks for stopping by!
What a neat link! Love it...
ReplyDeleteI put this in as part of my Friday Five at Kate's Library!
You're the first person I've ever heard say The Alchemist (that is the book you're referring to right?) is a piece of crap. I feel so guilty about not liking it when the whole world thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread. I like your blog very much and am a new follower,
ReplyDeleteDianne
Oh thank you for more validation! The rising 8th graders here have to read The Alchemist for their summer reading and I'm pretty sure my son's future English teacher was unimpressed when I asked her if she hated kids and wanted to stifle any desire they might have for learning by assigning this to them. Yeah, 8th grade doesn't start until August and I'm already labeled as the parent to avoid. ;-)
ReplyDeleteKristen you are so funny! I would have said the same thing. Probably the second most over-rated book ever written. (The Da Vinci Code being first of course...)
