Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann
Quite simply, this book is what I consider to be a masterpiece. It won the National Book Award in 2009 which means a lot has been said about this book. It's been featured on other blogs and has been reviewed by important newspapers. Most of these outlets have written about this book more eloquently and more intelligently than I could. So I direct you to the above links, but I will say this: Colum McCann's Let The Great World Spin is a book that I will recommend over and over again to readers who appreciate literary fiction. It is a book that explores the human condition and our connection to each other and the world in such a beautiful and truthful way and I will not forget it for a long time.

I can't wait to read this. I am going to New York in March and plan to bring it on my trip.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a must-read! I'll definitely add this to my list! Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is a powerful endorsement! I have a copy of this book and plan to read it soon. I hope that I love it as much as you do.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed this book. I didn't care for this book, seemed disjointed to me (but I'm in the minority). Took a heck of a lot of time to say nothing.

Looks good, I've had my eye on this one. Maybe I need to get my hands on it too.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to read such an enthusiastic and glowing review! I just picked up a copy of Let the Great World Spin a few weeks ago and hope to get to it in 2011.
ReplyDeleteI loved this one too. It was simply stunning.
ReplyDeleteI hope to read this one soon. I'm glad I've discovered yet another person who adores it!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you enjoyed this book! I agree that it's a book you recommend over and over again. I got a chance to hear Colum McCann speak this past fall - very cool.
ReplyDeleteI agree wholeheartedly with your review. Read it when it first came out and then forced a copy on every literature-loving friend I could find (which turned out to be a rather expensive proposition as it's the kind of book one isn't likely to get back from a borrow!).
ReplyDeleteI jumped over here from What Red Read: I'm so glad I did. Enjoying all your posts.
this was a seriously phenomenal book. it's been quite a while since i've read it, but browsing the titles you've reviewed and seeing it there just makes me want to read it over and over again (if only time would stand still for a bit). i, too, would recommend this one to anyone.
