Reading in Review: June

June was a good month for me. I jumped out of a plane, visited some friends out of state and read some great books.
Books read: 5

The Polysyllabic Spree by Nick Hornby (2004)
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (1868)
The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist (2006)
The Brooklyn Follies by Paul Auster (2006)
Passing by Nella Larson (1929)

Challenges completed: 1/ Back to the Classics Challenge

Favorite June read: The Brooklyn Follies

Authors of color read: 40%

Non-fiction read: 20%

Non-American authors read: 40%

Books read that are older than me: 40%

I've also managed to stick to my 60 day book-buying ban for a solid 31 days. I didn't think I could make it a whole month. Let's see if I can continue through July.

  1. I love that photo! I have Brooklyn Follies on a shelf somewhere...I really should find it and read it, especially since you liked it more than Little Women!

  3. softdrink, Find it for sure! It's awesome. Also, Little Women was a big let down for me, so don't go by that comparison if you liked LM a lot.

    Red, Haha good point.

  4. June sounds like it was a fun month. I really want to read The Polysyllabic Spree, I'm just waiting for my hold in the library to come in.

You can do it on the book buying ban. I did six months after thinking that I wouldn't even make a month.

  6. Hiya Brenna!

I love your month in review posts!

Also - congrats! I'm trying to not buy any more books until I've read all the ones I have on my shelf. We'll see how that goes!

  7. You jumped out of a plane this month?!?! That's intense...and something I could never ever do. I'm starting to do these monthly wrap-ups as well. Just posted mine today: http://femalebookreader.blogspot.com/2011/07/june-reading-round-up.html Although this was an off month for me.

  9. Hi Brenna, I'm a new reader here - you seem to read great books! I loved The Polysyllabic Spree too. It really makes you want to read! I posted some quotes and tips from the book in my book blog (it's in Finnish but the Hornby quotes are in English...)

  10. Have you ever been to a Nick Hornby reading? If not, you should. He's so funny, nice and smart. I sound like a groupie or stalker...

  12. You just throw "jump out of a plane" in there like no big deal? So fun! Good luck with not purchasing through July... you have more willpower than I do, that's for sure.
